Mandie Sawyer-- 2013 2 Those Who Care winner

According to one of her nominators, Amanda Sawyer is "a role model of selflessness and compassion."

Mandie focuses her extraordinary efforts in unique areas. A three-year participant in the 39.3-mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, she formed a team of friends and family: the Holy Walkamoles. Her efforts have raised more than $30,000 for the Avon Breast Cancer Foundation.

Mandie is the chairperson of Cinderella Project of Maine, a "recycling" project uniting Maine girls with new and gently-used prom dresses. In this year's eighth annual giveaway, she not only helped 220 girls find fabulous and free dresses, but also expanded the program to help boys in need of prom-appropriate clothes. Although based in Belfast, and operating as an unfunded project of Waldo Community Action Program, the Cinderella Project serves young people across Maine.

In addition to these large-scale projects, Mandie works as a culinary arts teacher in an alternative education program in Belfast. She pays attention to her students' needs, especially personal or home factors that could inhibit their school success and finds creative ways to quietly ameliorate the situation. A Girl Scout troop leader, a delivery driver coordinator of Waldo CAP's Thanksgiving and Christmas Basket projects, she inspires people around her to pitch in and volunteer, too.

According to Jessica Woods of Belfast Area High School, Mandie "has had a hand in helping someone in every age group and demographic in Waldo County in a meaningful way."
