Martha Harris-- 2013 2 Those Who Care winner

Martha Harris deeply believes that education is a cornerstone of our democracy and should be fully available to all. She has spent a lifetime in community service with a focus on the children of Hampden, Newburgh, Winterport, and Frankfort (RSU 22).

A sitting Board of Education member for 18 years, she has long tenure on the Policy and Building Committees. Martha is also on the Maine State Board of Education, where she serves on the School Construction and Leadership/Legislative Committees; she is the only member of the State Board who concurrently serves on a local Board of Education.

In addition to her significant educational efforts, Martha is also on the Board of Newburgh's Windover Art Center and OHI, an agency helping people with disabilities live and work in their communities. Professionally, Martha maintains an active practice as an attorney. She has been a member of the Criminal Advisory Committee, and volunteers her professional time through the Volunteer Lawyers Project.

According to Kelly Bickmore, Chair of the RSU 22 Board, "Martha's compassionate advocacy, professionalism, and passion for public education are without equal."
