Mid Coast Hospital Chosen as One of Maine’s 'Preferred' Providers

Mid Coast Hospital Chosen as One of Maine’s 'Preferred' Providers

Mid Coast Hospital was recognized today as one of just five hospitals in Maine, and the only hospital in the Greater Brunswick area, for demonstrating sustained high performance over five years by the Maine State Employee Health Commission.  The Commission’s Executive Director, Frank Johnson attended a presentation ceremony this morning at Mid Coast Hospital, where he recognized the health care provider as a “Preferred Tier 1 Hospital” for their consistent high marks in quality, patient safety, and clinical experience.

Johnson’s remarks pinpointed the health care priorities that are required to establish preferred provider status.

How to Eliminate Back Pain from Gardening or Yard Work

How to Eliminate Back Pain from Gardening or Yard Work

Summer yard work and gardening are great ways to spruce up your home, grow your own food, and spend time outdoors. The trouble is, while gardening or working in the yard, we usually work in bent over, unusual positions for prolonged periods of time and can wind up with back, neck, and shoulder pain when we are done. Dr. MacArthur and Dr. McNally of Portland Chiropractic Neurology offer these tips to help keep your body safe before planting and pulling weeds:

  • Stretch your muscles.

Maine Red Cross Blood Supply Drops to Critically Low Levels

Red Cross asks eligible blood donors to make and keep appointments

The American Red Cross Northern New England has issued an appeal for blood donors of all types due to a critical blood shortage across our nation.   While demand for blood products remains steady, donations to the Red Cross this summer are the lowest the Red Cross has seen in over a decade.  All types are needed, but especially O negative, which can be used to treat any patient.  There are many contributing factors that make collecting blood difficult in the summer months.  Many donors are busy or traveling and school is out of session.

“We urge eligible blood donors and first time donors to help reverse this trend and give blood to help us recover from the shortage, stated Donna M. Morrissey, Director of Communications, American Red Cross – Northeast Division.

STATEWIDE ORGANIZATIONS RECOGNIZE TEEN DATING VIOLENCE PREVENTION & AWARENESS MONTH

STATEWIDE ORGANIZATIONS RECOGNIZE TEEN DATING VIOLENCE PREVENTION & AWARENESS MONTH

Every year, thousands of teenagers across the State of Maine experience dating violence.  February is Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Month, a national effort to raise awareness about abuse in youth relationships and promote programs that focus on prevention. The Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence and the Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault are calling on Mainers to help recognize this important month, not only for youth in Maine, but for communities statewide.

Dating violence is “controlling, abusive, and aggressive behavior in a romantic relationship. It occurs in both heterosexual and same-sex relationships and can include verbal, physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, or a combination of these behaviors.”  Dating violence often starts with what may seem like minor behavior, such as teasing and name calling.
